Last week my class went to All about looks. All about looks is a fabric store located in Lubbock, texas. It is owned and operated by a mother and her two daughters. (Although there are other employees as well.)
Contrary to my original idea of the shop, All about looks is not just your plain run of the mill store. They sell fabric, along with doing upholstery, instilation, and hardware. The women there truly care about their jobs and strve to make the customer happy.
The first thing we did upon arrival, was lear about the different types of fabric that can be used for numerous projects. We learned what makes a fabric good for what it does. For instance, if a fabric is going to be on an item that is always being used, you would want it to have a higher double rub. That means that the fabric is durable. The owner was nice enough to pass around samples of each of the fabrics she was teaching us about, which made the learning experince much easier to comprehend as well as much more interesting.
We were also informed of some of the lates trends. I found it fascinating that wall paper was actually making a return, and in an extremely new manner. The textured wall coverings and multiple new materials was remarkable to me.My favorite was the wall paper that was textured in a design that you could pick out, but once it was on the wall you could paint over, to really make it yours!
Later, we learned that they can re-make and re-style a piece of old furniture. The changes were amazing!
The people at all About Looks were so passionate for their work, and it was truly inspiring. I can't wait for the day that I get to take part in some of the things that they do! And I hope I get the chamce to work with wonderful people like them!
I'm glad to see that soeone enjoyed the wallpaper as much as I did. Great job sharing many of the different things they had to share with our classes!
