In my interior materials class, we learned about fabric application, and how it is important when it comes to chosing the right fabric to apply to a particular piece of furniture. The fabric you select is very much dependant on many outside factors, including how often the furniture is used, what it is used for, where it is located, and many other variables. The fabric you apply plays a huge role in whether or not your design works for the particular enviornment it is set in.
Our assignment was to find a fabric applied somewhere on campus and discuss how well it was used, and whether or not it was appropriate for its use. Tori and I decided to use the fabric on the furniture in El Centro in the human sciences building. The area is a place for students to hang out and/or study between classes. The fabric used in this room is very durable and easily cleaned. It allows for many students to use them, as well as eat and drink near them, seeing as they can easily be wiped down.
The fabric in this particular room is no luxury fabric. It seems to be cost efficient, which is important when dealing with a budget. All in all, we found that the fabric chosen to apply to the furniture in this particular room, was a great design decision. It looks nice, and functions perfectly.
